Jay Johnson the Skinny Molly guitarist grew up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and as the son of Swamper Jimmy Johnson, was always around some of the greatest musicians in rock and soul music.
With stints in the Rossington Band, the Southern Rock All-Stars and Blackfoot, he has shown his versatility and high caliber of musicianship to be second to none.

"My wife Sandy and I started performing music as high school friends in 1981. After playing in several Muscle Shoals area bands with her, life sent us in different directions, with myself touring as a member of The Rossington Band with Lynyrd Skynyrd founder Gary Rossington from 1985-1989. Later I became part of the Southern Rock Allstars (1994-2006) and Blackfoot (2006-2007) followed by current band Skinny Molly (2008-present).
Sandy and I resumed performing together in 2011 and eventually married, the last time we performed in the UK together with our 28 Between duo was in Derby in 2017.
My father Jimmy Johnson was and is the main reason I entered the music business. His musical contributions as a guitarist, engineer and producer are too numerous to mention. He played on records by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, JJ Cale, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Glenn Frey and many more, as engineer he worked with the Rolling Stones and Percy Sledge, as a record producer he created recordings with Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, George Michael, The Rossington Band and Blackfoot, among many others."
