Colombian President Gustavo Petro on April 3, 2025 officially announced his government's decision to acquire Saab Gripen fighter jets from Sweden to modernize its air force. Petro said the fleet that was acquired was entirely new, using the latest technology, and would be the same model that Brazil had used, namely the Gripen E/F variant.
