Journey to No Shoulder Rest for Violinists is for anyone who is toying with the idea of experimenting to play without shoulder rest! All of us involved in the making of this video have been through that process and while it has been painful for some of us (and painless for the lucky few!), it turned out to be extremely beneficial! I thought it would be fun to talk to some of my studio-mates and colleagues about their journeys and share our experiences with others who are taking the plunge!
Part 1 is an introduction of our violinists, and the benefits they have found from the switch.
Part 2 covers set-up, challenges and struggles converted violinists have faced as well as reasons we have taken the plunge!
Part 3 covers some exercises and warm-ups to built comfort that we have found useful for us during our change!
Part 4... Golden advice for anyone looking to make the switch! =)
