Salam!! 🇦🇿 Today, it's time to enjoy Azerbaijani dances. Someone once told me that Greece and Azerbaijan have no historical connection. I beg to differ. Thanks to Strabo and Diodorus we got to know about Atropatene, the kingdom of Atropates. A nobleman who was reinstated as the satrap of Media under the Persian Empire and later under the King of the Hellenes, Alexander the Great. "Atropates" and "Atropatene" are Greek transliterations of Old Iranian-Median compounded names with the meaning "The Land of the Fire". This is Azerbaijan's national motto, as well. Over the span of millennia and with the Persian lingual evolution, the areas of Atropatene (Adharbayagan) and Shirvan became the multicultural country we all know, Azerbaijan.

This transcontinental Caspian-Caucasian country has been knocking my door for a while and today I am finally opening this door. Episode 24 of my World Dance Series. A boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. A rich, beautiful and skillful culture.
