肿瘤标志物是肿瘤组织产生的可以反映肿瘤自身存在的化学物质，又称肿瘤标记物。这类物质是癌细胞分泌或脱落到体液或组织中的，或是宿主对自身体内癌变细胞发生反应而产生并进入到体液或组织中的物质。这些物质，有的是不存在于正常人体组织内的，仅见于胚胎时期；有的是存在于正常人体组织内，但含量微弱，在罹患癌症时，在肿瘤组织中的含量大大超过在正常组织里的含量，存在或量变可以提示肿瘤的性质，借以了解肿瘤的组织发生、细胞分化、细胞功能等，通过对肿瘤标志物的检测，可以早期预警或辅助诊断、、分类、分析病程、指导治疗、监测复发转移、判断预后等。
