Friday open testing & tune prior to the AZ SCCA Snowbird Major on 03.01.24 - Tried a different line through turns 8/9/10... was way too far over on drivers left turn 9, decided to cut turn 10 to avoid going off on exit (or spin). Didn't count on two things: apex cone was down, didn't see it - caught it on my right front wing end plate (you can see it in the air in the rear video) & bending the wing pole, pulling the cotter pin all the way through the endplate as the wing bent slightly back. I could still see both end plates, so I figured I was good. Second & major issue was both radiator inlets were totally blocked with vegetation! Within a lap the temperature climbed, then skyrocketed as the pressure cap blew & I lost coolant.... first I could smell it, then I could feel the heat on the bulkhead as the overflow tube to the catch can blew off & coolant sprayed the bulkhead... dead stick in, the mechanical temp gauge went way beyond the end of the scale. Pinto engines are tough, it's still going strong.
