Donncha Ó Dúlaing introduces the first programmes in the series ‘’Donncha at Bantry House’.

It was here that the first principles of liberty, fraternity and equality were almost annunciated.

There is no place in Ireland quite like Bantry Bay and the fine white house above it.

The first guests on the series are The Dubliners performing ‘The Night Visiting Song’ in the grand surrounds of Bantry House.

Bantry House was built in the Georgian style and fifty years later it was sold to a farmer from Whiddy Island, Mr Richard White. The house has remained in the hands of the White family since then. In 1945, the house was opened to the public.

‘Donncha at Bantry House’ was an eight-part music series presented by Donncha Ó Dúlaing from the stately home in Bantry, County Cork. The programme featured mainly Irish traditional/folk singers and musicians. It was similar in format to his previous television series, ‘Donncha at Adare’. The first episode was broadcast on 31 January 1982 and the last on 21 March 1982. The series was produced by Niall Mathews.

Other musical guests in the series included Mary Black, Ursula Willis, The Sands Family, De Dannan, Maura O’Connell, Louis Stewart, Bernadette Greevy, Philip King, Ormond Céilí Band, Liam O’Flynn, Black Raven Pipe Band, Pope’s Quay Choir, amongst others.
