Nik, 22, is a guitarist and lutenist from Sydney, Australia. Having completed studies in Classical guitar at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music (Ohio), Nik was awarded a Fulbright scholarship in 2024 to study theorbo, archlute and baroque guitar at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, Germany.
Nik has won over 15 prizes in competitions, such as twice winning the Tuesday Musical Guitar Competition (Akron, Ohio), placing second in the Adelaide International Guitar Competition 2023, and winning the collegiate division of the Louisville guitar competition. Nik was also the recipient of the Oberlin Entrepreneurship Microgrant for a solo recording project and the recipient of the Oberlin Ernest Hatch Wilkens Memorial Prize for Academic Excellence.
Nik’s performance outings cover a wide range of music, on several types of plucked stringed instruments. From playing theorbo with Chicago-based groups, Twisted Pearl and the Bach and Beethoven Experience to being a resident accompanist at Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute to premiering new works for guitar by Aron Nichols, Cashel Day-Lewis and Chloe Arnold.
Other highlights include performing in Oberlin’s prestigious Dannenberg Recital Series, working with Oberlin Contact Improv Dance on a new work by Gariella Smith, and debuting new arrangements for the classical guitar.
Nik's teachers include Raffaelo Agostino (Sydney), Stephen Aaron (Oberlin), and Sharon Isbin (Aspen) and coachings with Pepe Romero and Christopher Parkening.
