My Deconversion Story: "God's Ways are Higher Than Our Ways!"

My deconstruction from Evangelical Christianity was motivated by a desire to refine my beliefs and to get to know God, my creator, better.
I was told that He loved me and he deeply desired a relationship with me, in fact that was supposed to be the entire purpose of my life.
This is the main spiel used to hook people
Into Evangelical Christianity...that the creator of the universe deeply desired a relationship with you.
It's an appealing thought for many who want to feel sought after and loved.
But what I found was a wall with no way to get around.
I learned that it was fundamentally impossible to know God more,
Because any interesting or challenging question I stumbled upon was consistently met with "you can't expect to understand God, His ways are higher than our ways" and "all will be understood when you get to Heaven."
But I understood this was an impossible task, to have a relationship with a being that I couldn't know or understand.

Today I'd like to discuss why this commonly used response didn't work on me during my deconstruction period, and why it isn't a valid answer to our deepest questions and concerns about Christianity.
