Shingo Yamashita (山下 清悟) Works Sakuga MAD - umbrella by SEKAI NO OWARI

Another generational animator and director, especially when it comes to directing OPs. He started as a web gen animator and gained notoriety for his work on Birdy Decode and an episode of anime that was generational for some and controversial for others: Naruto Shippuden episode 167. Soon after he would become a one man army for his EDs on Naruto and From the New World, where he would do everything from the direction to the animation to the compositing all by himself. This would become the groundwork for when he would direct OPs with his modern cinematic vision and tons of amazing animators working alongside him. His skills were evident with Twin Star Exorcists OP2 and Shippuden OP13 but I think it was his JJK OPs that really made an impact on the greater anime landscape going forward. Other directors like Ryouhei Takeshita, Yuuki Kamiya, Tetsuro Araki, and Tomohisa Taguchi would be influenced by this and add their own spin to this style. I will say the last few OPs ShingoYama has done (pretty much anything after CSM) hasn’t felt as strong to me as everything before that point, but they’re still good and his impact can’t be understated.

For this MAD, I used umbrella by SEKAI NO OWARI, and I think this is the 5th song I’ve used from them now. What can I say they’re one of my favorite bands lmao. I did this kinda on a whim because I know I said I wouldn’t do anymore MADs this year but I found some free time and thought I could make this song work, and I think for the most part it did. The only thing I’m still kinda iffy on is at 4:14 because I wasn’t sure what scenes would work well for this calmer but still sporadic part of the song, and I still wanted this scenes to make it into the MAD in some form. Otherwise I’m really happy it, especially with how 0:44-1:02 and how JJK OP2 synced well with the calm part of the song at 3:02-3:19. To be honest despite his accomplishments, I wasn’t sure for the longest time if I would make a ShingoYama MAD, but I’m glad I made it work.
