Boracay Review
This world famous island paradise was known for it’s white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and vibrant beach culture
Boracay was one of the most beautiful and popular islands in Asia, but it suffered from over tourism, environmental degradation, sewage issues and unregulated development. The first time I went to Boracay was in 2016 and it wasn’t great. It was super crowded, dirty, overrun and chaotic. The paradise everyone talked about felt lost and I had no intention of going back.
In 2018, the Philippine government closed Boracay for 6 months to clean it up and completed a rehabilitation program to upgrade infrastructure and implement environmental restoration as well as improve sewage systems and waste management.
Boracay was reborn and reopened in Oct 2018 cleaner, greener and more peaceful. New rules included no smoking, drinking or beach parties and a daily cap on tourist numbers.
On this trip, I saw the beautiful Boracay paradise people talked about with clean white sand beaches and turquoise blue waters.
Boracays transformation is a reminder that even paradise isn’t immune to destruction. But with bold action and a willingness to change and improve, paradise can be given a second chance!
