Journavx is a sodium channel blocker that works by blocking pain signals to the spinal cord and brain. It is not classified as a controlled substance because it is not known to cause addiction or dependence.

This medication comes as tablets that are taken by mouth every 12 hours. The first dose should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. Subsequent doses may be taken with or without food. The tablets must be swallowed whole.

The most common side effects of Journavx are itching, muscle spasms, increased blood creatine phosphokinase, and rash. It interacts with many medications, supplements, and grapefruit.
