Overlanding the San Rafael Swell south of Interstate 70: This journey explores the abandoned and historic Copper Globe Mine before continuing to Reds Canyon Overlook. The route, through the Swell, travels over a moderately challenging 4-WD trail, across several washes, past the Copper Globe Mine, across rocky Kimball Draw ridge, and over the sandy Link Flats Loop trail, before finally ascending to the Reds Canyon Overlook with its magnificent views. After camping on the rim of Reds Canyon, the trip ends abruptly, when the threat of being stranded by a classic desert thunderstorm forces us to head back to pavement and civilization.
