When you think of a pomegranate as a potential flower, this makes lots of sense. It's how they open naturally, and you don't waste a single drop of the delicious juice. I prefer using or dehydrating the intact arils for use on salads and in smoothies, or simply opening the fruit and having the sections in a bowl for snacking. I learned the technique from friends who have been harvesting and enjoying pomegranates for close to four decades.
I'm glad most commenters find it useful, and am puzzled and amused by a few other comments.
