J.J. Richards was a famous march composer, performer, and conductor having first played cornet in the Barnum and Bailey Circus Band followed by a conducting stint with the Ringling Brothers Circus Band. In 1936, Richards became the director of the Sterling Municipal Band and oversaw the construction of the Grandon Civic Center in 1938. Composed in 1944
while living in Sterling, this is “The American Ranger”.
