For John Lennon’s 30th birthday, October 9, 1970, numerous friends sent him tapes with birthday wishes and songs. John received songs from many famous people, including
George Harrison (“It’s Johnny’s Birthday”),
Nina Simone & Christine Dunham (“Happy Birthday”),
Janis Joplin and the Full Tilt Boogie Band (Happy Trails”),
Donovan (“Here Come the Threes”),
and this one from Ringo Starr (“Happy Birthday John”).
Except for one partial airing on the Lost Lennon Tapes in October 1988, this song remains unreleased.
