Villa d’Este in the Hill Town of Tivoli, Italy is a 16th century Villa with Italian Renaissance Terraced Gardens which contain dozens of water features and fountains. The villa was commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito ii d'Este (1509 -1572)
All the fountains and water features are entirely feed and run by gravity from steams in the Sabine hills (no pumps). Its a truly beautiful place to walk and relax my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here. its been a UNESCO world heritage site since 2001.
Tivoli a hill town 30 miles east of Rome with stunning views over Campagna, has been popular since the days of the Roman empire with Emperor Hadrian running the empire from his villa in the town. It has many delightful archaeological sites and a good range of restaurants to enjoy along side Villa d'Este. Highly recommended as a day trip from Rome. just take a train from Romes Tiburtina station and your there in an hour! A delightful train trip!
