Parker Brothers created a game called Broadway in 1915, but before the first year of publication was complete, they discovered a great marketing connection. The book "Pollyanna" was a runaway best-seller, and Parker redesigned their Broadway game to fit the theme of the book. They incorporated some of the main characters into the artwork, too.
The game play really had little to do with the story - it was a derivation of Parcheesi and other such race games. Each player controls four pawns and attempt to be first to circumvent the track and get all four to their goal. Moves are determined by dice rolls, and there are send-back conditions, safe spaces, and blockades. Aside from a few unique features on the board, all the usual rules are here.
That said, it is a fun game with a good balance between chance and choice.
