This is part 1 of a multi-part series about carving a wooden bowl. In this episode we go searching for a suitable log, split it and decide which half we will use to carve our bowl. We also discuss other suitable woods to look for to carve a bowl. This list includes:
Black Cherry
Maple (all varieties)
Black Walnut
Osage Orange
Fruit woods (apple, pear etc)
Beach
Birch
Alder
There are many others but these are a few that are good choices.
In the next episode we will do some rough shaping of our bowl blank and draw our design.
