German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s change of position on Greenland, easing concerns that the dispute could divide the NATO alliance. Speaking ahead of an emergency EU leaders’ summit in Brussels, Merz also praised Trump for stepping back from imposing additional tariffs and described NATO as the most successful political alliance between Europe and the United States.
