Two Full Days and One Night in Catalina Island, CA!

Hiya Wanderers! We're back in California! Today we're exploring a not-so-hidden gem an hour off the LA coast: Catalina Island! Let's go!

Getting there:
There are three main ways to get to Catalina: ferry, helicopter, and jet ski. The most popular is the ferry; your options are the Catalina Express or the Catalina Flyer. We took the Catalina Express! Adult round-trip tickets are $88, Seniors are $81, Children are $72, and $7 for infants under two. Bikes and surfboards are an additional $7. You can also upgrade to the Captain’s Lounge for $160 (we didn't find this necessary but of course, it's up to you).
The Catalina Express has ports from San Pedro, Long Beach, and Dana Point. From all ports, it's about an hour to the island. We left and stowed our car at San Pedro, which was $20/day. Book your tickets and get more information here: https://www.catalinaexpress.com/

Lodging:
You can camp in Catalina, but we decided to get a hotel for our excursion. Most hotels here are very expensive (~$400/night), but we stayed at the Seaport Village Inn for $200/night. The staff is very friendly and has shuttle services to/from the dock and hotel. Look for available rooms here! https://www.seaportvillageinn.com/

Transportation:
You can't bring your car on the ferry, but luckily Catalina is very walkable. We brought our bike, but most people rent golf carts. I was seeing most places rent golf carts for $60/hour. Here are resources for more information on this option: http://www.catalinaislandgolfcart.com/

Activities:
Catalina has SO many options for touring and adventure! The only guided excursions we did were the flying fish tour and the ferry from Two Harbors to Avalon. We highly recommend the Flying Fish tour and the ferry is the best way to get from one side of the island to the other. The Flying Fish tour is only available at night and costs $45 for adults and $42 for children, seniors & military. The ferry between ports is $18/adult for a one-way ticket.
If you crave even more adventure, Catalina also has ATV tours, bison tours, a ropes course, zip lines, glass bottom boats, and snorkel or scuba tours to name a few. **We thought it would be a great idea to bike from Avalon to Two Harbors...unless you are an avid mountain/dirt cyclist and you have all the proper equipment...we DO NOT recommend doing this. We didn't realize how strenuous the path would be and our bike was not equipped for this type of terrain and we needed to walk our bike the last two miles through the mountains due to a flat tire.**
