Bastrop channel begins near the Missouri Pacific Railroad which is about two miles southwest of Angleton in central Brazoria County. From there, it runs 322 miles south, then northeast through Cox Lake, the Gulf of Intercoastal Canal, and Bastrop Bay before finally reaching its mouth on Christmas Bay in east-central Brazoria County.
In the past, Bastrop served as a vital transportation artery in Brazoria County. It served as a site for sailboats and small, shallow-draft steamboats to transport goods as far as upstream as Landing Bayou.
