Star Trek LCARS Style Smart Home Dashboard First Demo.

This is a brief demonstration of my smart home dashboard interface. I’m using an Amazon Fire HD 8 just to try it all out as it was a lot of work and a lot of research, trial and error. I still have a few more home devices to add such as security cameras, smart smoke detector (which I will link to the Red Alert routine) and a couple of other bits and pieces.

The next stage is to transfer everything over to a Fire HD 10 and wall Mount it (now done) for a true dashboard. The Fire tablets have to be side loaded with Google services for this to work as well as it does. Of course a big part of this LCARS style interface is the Total Launcher app which gives you so many possibilities for not just a fully customisable launcher and UI, but now a smart home dashboard if you’re prepared to put a little bit of time and effort in.

I’ll post another video when the next tablet goes on the wall and I may also add another in the kitchen. Below are some of the main sources I have used to get this all working.

BroadLink (for the RM4 Pro universal remote IR/RF blaster I use to control a lot of my equipment). NOTE: this app is not available for fire tablets so you have to find the APK online and install it that way. The second link below is where I got mine.

Fully Kiosk (for “wake on motion” so when the front camera detects movement such as if you walk up to the tablet, it will automatically wake up and display the UI). Full Android has an app, but Fire OS needs an APK which can be found in the following link…
