Drafting a Vest Pattern: Tailoring for the Visual Learner - Chapter 2

“Tailoring for the Visual Learner” takes you through every step of creating a bespoke, hand tailored vest, from measurements to the final fitting.

In Chapter Two (of ten) we’ll go over the basics of pattern drafting. We'll also cover how to interpret the term "chest scale," and how to use a tailor's square (also known as an L-square or tailor's ruler). This series uses drafting instructions from Clarence Poulin's book: "Tailoring Suits: The Professional Way." Poulin leaves out a few important bits of information in his instructions, and I'll share advice on where these points should land on your draft.

For trouser drafts, I recommend: Fundamentals of Men's Fashion Design: A Guide to Tailored Clothes by Masaaki Kawashima.

The foundation of a good pattern is accurate measurements, so check out Chapter One if you'd like a refresher on where your measuring tape should lay on the body.
