This is an well established urban permaculture project here in San Diego, Ca. Being in zone 10b, we are able to cultivate a wide variety of plants, including tropicals and northern latitude stone fruits.
In the previous update, I was on property for almost 4 months and was able to complete quite a few hardscape upgrades as well as bring in a few new varieties of dragonfruit, avocado and blueberry as well as a new peach and apple tree.
This fall maintenance period lasted about two weeks of daily, non-stop work in the garden. I have been doing a chop and drop style of permaculture for years and most of my work involves a massive amount of pruning and reshaping of the trees to maintain form and structure as I have limited space to work with. I do not import compost as I make my own and harvest it every 6 months. I feed with a mix of organic store bought fertilizer as well as a very small amount of standard triple 15, I believe this gives me solid results for the time I am able to spend on-site. This is truly a "set it and forget it" project and is a good example of what can be done with proper techniques in a permaculture setting.
I was unable to do a final walkthrough of the property and work completed but all went well and my spring 2024 visit video will act as this video's after and the new one's before.
As always, I am doing this more for my own record of the work I love to do but if you do find this video interesting or have any specific questions, please leave them in the comments below.
Happy gardening everyone!
