In this session, Sarah Lucas (Healthcare Analyst, Strategy Unit) will introduce new work exploring the scale, trends and regional variation of potentially mitigable hospital activity, using national data taken from the New Hospital Programme demand model.
Shifting care from hospital to community is a core ambition of current health policy, but understanding where there may be genuine opportunities for change - and how big they are - remains challenging.
This session will:
• introduce a publicly available report and interactive resource
• share key national and sub-national findings
• explore how the work can be used by analysts, planners, leaders and decision-makers to inform discussions about care models and capacity
