Orchids suited for warm climates

Orchids are such a diverse group of plants that it's easy to find those species suited for our environment. So today we will talk about the ones suited for warmer climates. Keep in mind, all orchids have a limit, no matter how tolerant, so don't go to extremes.

Cattleyas are the most common orchids suited for warm temperatures and climates. They are also easy to find and to top them all, they have spectacular flowers and sometimes a heavenly fragrance. Who Can say no to that? They can tolerate pretty high temperatures and also low temperatures, but they will generally do better in warmer climates. Relate to them are some Encyclias and also some Epidendrum species.

Vanda orchids are equally known and pretty. They do enjoy warm temperatures and bright light, so as long as you can keep up with watering and humidity, a Vanda can grow very well in warm temperatures. Orchids related to Vandas will generally do good as well, like the Renanthera and Angraecum orchids.

Dendrobiums are also suited for warm climates. The dendrobium Phalaenopsis does particularly well and it doesn't need a winter rest. dendrobium nobile is also very resistant, but does require a winter rest and a drop in temperature, making it not necessarily suited for very warm climates with no temperature variation in between seasons.

Phalaenopsis can do great in warm climates, but the summer blooming species are the ones suited for these climates. They don't need a winter rest or a temperature drop to bloom, as long as days are warm, they can keep blooming periodically. And the bellina and violacea are just too fragrant not to have.

Some other species suited for warm climates are Psychopsis orchids and also Tolumnia orchids. regarding Oncidiums, well they don;t necessarily do the best in particularly hot environments, but not all varieties are as picky.
