Jeremy Pelt has developed in recent years from an insider tip to a world star in the jazz periphery. More than highly regarded by fellow musicians, the visionary convinces with a soulful and expressive tone, despite his precise and downright razor-sharp articulation. Without a doubt, he is one of the outstanding young trumpeters of this generation. With his newly formed quintet, Jeremy presents an entirely new program after his breathtaking concert last year, including new songs from his soon-to-be-released new album.
Pelt has been playing trumpet since early childhood and studied at the prestigious Berklee College. He moved to New York after graduation and took the scene by storm. His collaborations include performances and recordings with Wayne Shorter, Jimmy Heath, Ravi Coltrane, John Hicks, Roy Hargrove, Cassandra Wilson, Louis Hayes, Mulgrew Miller, Lewis Nash and Wayne Escoffery. This list could go on and on.
Pelt performs frequently with such notable ensembles as the Roy Hargrove Big Band, the Village Vanguard Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Big Band, and is a member of the Lewis Nash Septet and the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band featuring Louis Hayes. As a leader, Pelt has recorded over albums and toured worldwide with his various ensembles, performing at many major jazz festivals and concert halls.
Pelt's recordings and performances have earned him critical acclaim both nationally and internationally. Legendary jazz writer and producer Nat Hentoff has featured him in the Wall Street Journal, and Downbeat Magazine and the Jazz Journalist Association have named him a Rising Star on the trumpet for five consecutive years.
In addition to his musical activities, Jeremy Pelt is an author and has made significant contributions to the study of the heritage and origins of significant jazz musicians in relation to their African American heritage through his book series Griot.
