Nick Garner of SportsTalk4Kids (http://www.sportstalk4kids.com) got in the Olympic spirit by spending time at the Squaw Valley Olympic Village, site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. The Squaw Valley Olympics were the site of several firsts, including the first Olympics in the western United States, the first to house athletes in an Olympic Athletes Village, the first to use computer timing, the first to see metal skis, the first woman to say the Olympic Oath, and the first to be televised. Walt Disney was called in to design the opening and closing ceremonies. Near Lake Tahoe, California, the Squaw Valley Resort has an Olympic Museum at the top of the mountain, at High Camp. Community leaders hope to host the Winter Olympics again, but it would have to be the first interstate Olympic effort, utilizing facilities in surrounding cities like Reno and San Francisco.
