Join me as I journey into fitting Stay-Alive capacitors to HM7000 sound fitted a Hornby Class 08. The Stay Alive capacitors are designed to help maintain power to the locomotive during short power interruptions, such as when traveling across dirty track or poor electrical connections. This modification will help prevent stalling and improve overall reliability, particularly for sound-fitted models like the Hornby Class 08.
Start by ensuring the locomotive is powered off and the body shell is carefully removed. The HM7000 decoder should be visible, and you'll need to find the space within the locomotive's chassis for the capacitors. Stay- Alive typically come with a small wiring harness, which you'll connect to the decoder's dedicated Stay-Alive input pins. It's essential to connect the positive and negative wires correctly to avoid any potential damage.
Once installed, reassemble the locomotive, check all connections, and test the loco to verify that the Stay Alive capacitors are functioning correctly, smoothing out any power interruptions and providing more consistent running performance. It will transform the running of your model railway with amazing results.
