Today on our 1995 Jeep Wrangler we're going to be installing the CURT custom fit trailer hitch receiver in the class three 2" version. Part number is 13657. This is what our hitch is going to look like after we've got it installed on our Wrangler. A few measurements to keep in mind: From the center of the hitch pinhole towards the front of the car towards the steel bumper we're looking at about 3-1/2". From the center of the hitch pinhole out to the edge of our tire, which is a P215/75R15, we're looking at about 6-1/2". From the ground to the inner edge of the top tube of our receiver hitch opening we're looking at about 15".

These are important when choosing the accessories, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or hitch cargo carrier. I just want to go over and show you the hardware and a few of the tools that we might need. We're going to have our 7/16" bolts and the conical tooth washers that are made to fit right on those. Those will go on the underside of our bumper and they'll be threaded up in. We're going to have eight 3/8" bolts. We're going to have eight 3/8" washers and eight 3/8" flange nuts.

These are all four our original factory mounting holes on the rear. We've got a ratchet, just a standard opened-end box wrench. We may need an extension. We're not there yet; we don't know. We've got deep well and short well sockets.

We may need a tap for the very bottom holes. Then if it's hard to get to we've also get a little swivel head socket here. We may need it, we may not. We'll just see when we get there and see what we have to do. Now that we've gone over our hardware let's go ahead and head over to the Jeep and get started. Now to begin our installing we need to remove our factory bumper rings.

There are four bolts located two on each side of each of our ring. Now these are threaded through our main bumper into some nuts on the backside so we're going to use our socket here on the front. We'll use a wrench on the back to hold those nuts as we turn it. It may be a really good idea for you to use some penetrating oil. Now our fifth connection point on each side's going to be the hole located directly underneath the bumper right in the middle of where our bumper rings we're mounted. I'm going to use a 7/16 tap. The thread pitch is a 14. Just run it up through there. It's going to clear out all that rust and stuff. Now let me grab one of our 7/16 bolts and we're just going to thread it in there just to make sure it's going to in there freely with no issue. Let's go over to the passenger side and we'll get that one taken care of. Now we've got our hitch laid out here behind the Jeep. We're going to take one of our 3/8" bolts and a washer, place that through the hitch. That will go right into our hole, and then a 3/8 flange nut is going to go on the backside here. Thread it on there. Just needs to be loose for now. We're still going to rotate the other half of the hitch up into place. Now let's get our other six bolts put in. Now that we've got all eight of our 3/8 bolts installed let's grab our 7/16 bolts. We'll place on a conical tooth washer. As you can see, the teeth of that washer are going to be facing in towards the vehicle. Let's head on over to the other side and put our other 7/16 bolt in. Now we'll move onto our 3/8 fasteners here and get these all cinched down. We need to refer to our manufacturer's instructions and get them torqued down properly. That will complete today's look at the CURT custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 13657, on our 1995 Jeep Wrangler. .
