October 23, 2025 - visiting the Upper Mesa Falls boardwalk trail. Mesa Falls is just off the old highway outside Ashton and Island Park in Eastern Idaho. These beautiful falls on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River cut through a cliff of million year old basalt, the ancient edge of a Yellowstone Volcano Caldera from eons ago. The trail is an easy walk from the visitor center which is a Historic Inn, but there are a lot of stairs on the boardwalks themselves. There is also an overlook for the Lower Falls just a third of a mile south on the road and a hiking trail to reach it.
