This the shorter performance version of a six-figure polka quadrille. Audiences don't want to watch the same figure performed four times, for twelve minutes, so each figure is performed only once. Five of the six figures are performed here, in order.
Choreographed only four years after the first-ever polka quadrille, Martin's "New Polka Quadrille" was an unusually creative quadrille for the time, that often defied conventional expectations. A video of the full six-figure version can be seen here: • Jules Martin's 1848 "New Polka Quadrille"
