What is Ambunu?
-Ambunu is a flowering plant native to Africa that has been used to aid in healthy lifestyles for centuries
-It is free of sulfates and parabens
-A.K.A - false sesame
-Scientific name - Ceratotheca Sesamoides


Ambunu Benefits:
Conditions the hair. Ambunu leaves hair soft and shiny.
-Helps strengthen the hair. Ambunu is rich in calcium, phosphorus, and protein.
Ambunu moisturizes the hair, it is considered an emollient. Ambunu leaves can help with dry scalp and hair loss. We know dry hair can lead to breakage.
-Keeps scalp flora balanced.


Ambunu contains saponin - a mild cleanser
Saponin is a natural, mild cleaning agent that effectively cleans hair without stripping away its natural oils. It helps remove dirt, oil, and impurities from both the scalp and hair, making it a gentle and non-drying alternative to commercial shampoos that often contain sulfates and other harsh chemicals. This makes Ambunu an excellent choice for those seeking a more natural cleansing option.


Detangling benefits
When Ambunu is mixed with water it forms mucilage (thick gluey substance produced by nearly all plants) creating a slippery coating on hair strands, allowing for easy detangling. Us naturalistas know that detangling can take a long time, and it can be the most frustrating part of wash day. Using Ambunu will help melt away the tangles.


How to make Ambunu for detangling:
-The directions say 500ml of water (about 2 cups) to 5 tablespoons of Ambunu. (my Ambunu is from Sahel Cosmetics)
-Bring the water to a boil
-Add 5 tablespoons of Ambunu
-Let sit for 10 – 20 minutes
-Strain (some do not strain. this is a personal choice)


How to Use for Detangling:
Section your hair
-Apply the Ambunu from root to tip
-Massage into scalp
-Make sure hair is coated
Using your fingers or a comb detangle your hair
-Let sit for 10 minutes
-Rinse
-Style as usual

Things to note:
-Ambunu is a MILD Cleanser. If you are heavy handle with products or you use a lot of products in between your wash days Ambunu will not remove all of the buildup. You will have to use it in conjunction with another shampoo.

-Ambunu can be applied to scalp. For those following my Chebe journey, yall know Chebe cannot be applied to the scalp. Ambunu leaves contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which can help to protect the hair and scalp from damage.

-Ambunu is messy. Make sure you wear old clothing or clothing you do not care about. I will wear one of my Chebe shirts.

Ambunu can also be used as a deep conditioner.

-Ambunu is mild enough to be left in the hair.
