Republican Senator Chuck Grassley faces opposition at Iowa town hall

Sen. Chuck Grassley, (R) Iowa, held a town hall in Fort Madison on Tuesday, with about 100 Iowans in attendance.

Associated Press reporter Hannah Fingerhut was there and said many topics were discussed.

“People asked Senator Grassley questions about whether tariffs will impact Iowa's farmers and how Medicaid and Social Security might be affected by spending cuts across the country. A lot of people felt concerned about the impacts to veterans' benefits and care for those that served our country,” Fingerhut said.

The mood in the room was at times tense.

“Voters were definitely feeling angst about the ways that the president is acting and how Congress is responding. They asked Senator Grassley to do more in response to President Trump to make sure that there is a check on the Trump administration coming from the legislative branch,” Fingerhut said.
