Silicon Bronze is not as strong as er70s2 tig rod for most applications. But it can be a good choice for light duty fixtures because it distorts much less than other welding rods.
Because it is technically a brazing rod, and melts at a much lower temperature than carbon steel, much less heat is applied and the shrinkage stresses are less.
other uses for silicon bronze are: building up wear surfaces, buildup of worn areas on thin wall tubing, welding copper alloys to each other or to steels, and of course metal art work.
