Protective coatings are probably the most widely used products for corrosion control. They are used to provide long-term protection under a broad range of corrosive conditions, extending from atmospheric exposure to the most demanding chemical processing conditions. The function of a protective coating or lining is to separate two highly reactive materials; i.e. to prevent strongly corrosive industrial fumes, liquids, solids, or gases from contacting the reactive underlying substrate of the structure.
