Vera, a Breton adrift in a strange world, scrapes by as a forager in Markarth after her mentor—an elderly Altmer herbalist—dies. When a gruff Nord named Undnar offers her a guide job to find a “misplaced” item—with 350 septims on the line—she agrees, even though his mysterious companion (a man in insect-like armor) feels off.

At the tavern, the companion—Teldryn, a Dunmer with bluish-grey skin and crimson eyes—silences a drunk merc with a single move, shocking Vera. She’s uneasy but sees the cash as her only way to get the letter back. Later, when Vera returns to the apothecary where she lives, she finds her roommate Muiri sobbing: Muiri is pregnant, and the father has abandoned her. Now Vera’s stuck between a suspicious guide job and a friend’s crisis, with no easy way out.
