Delta Safari: The Aaron Burr Saga | Edmund Gaines | Theodore Brightwell | Treason

Stu has put together another compilation from a Shorts series. This time it's the Aaron Burr Saga. After his infamous duel with Alexander Hamilton in 1804, Burr’s political career collapsed. But what followed was even more extraordinary and just a touch bizarre. Burr headed west, weaving through frontier towns and Spanish territories, assembling a network of allies. His goal? To carve out an independent empire in the Southwest—possibly by seizing land from Spanish rule or seceding from the United States.

President Jefferson called it treason and the manhunt was on. Today we’ll trace Burr’s descent from power to fugitive, and explore the roles of Captain Edmund P. Gaines and Sheriff Theodore Brightwell the men who brought Burr to justice.
