In 1989, Romanians are starving in the dark.
For two decades, Nicolae Ceaușescu has ruled through fear: rationing food, silencing dissent, and forcing the masses to worship him as the “Genius of the Carpathians,” and his wife Elena as the “Mother of the Nation.”
But when a televised rally turns against him, boos echoing through Bucharest, the man who once built palaces of marble and gold has no choice but to flee by helicopter.
Three days later, he faces his people not as a savior, but as a criminal. Found guilty of genocide and abuse of power, he and his wife are executed on the same day, Christmas Day.
What follows is chaos: a broken economy, empty factories, and a nation struggling to rebuild. Yet beneath the revolution’s fury lies a darker question, was it truly the people who brought Ceaușescu down… or the very system he created?
This is the story of how Romania turned against its ruler, and ended one of Europe’s last communist regimes in fire and blood.
