Turning a Stunning Laminated Cookie Jar on the Lathe

Today, we will be creating a laminated cookie jar on the lathe.

First, we start with laminated blocks of wood, glued into a square. The blocks are made by gluing together multiple layers of different colored woods. This creates a stunning visual effect once it's turned on the lathe."

Once the laminated block is mounted on the lathe, we can begin shaping it into the form of a cookie jar. I'll start by roughing out the basic shape with a roughing gouge.

As we carefully removes material, the layers of different wood colors are revealed, creating a mesmerizing pattern on the surface of the cookie jar.

Now that we have the rough shape, I'll use a hollowing tool to create the round space for the cookies. This will also give the jar its distinctive shape and allow for the lid to fit snugly.

After sanding and finishing, the laminated cookie jar is now complete, showcasing a stunning blend of different wood colors and textures. It's a beautiful and practical piece that is sure to be a centerpiece in any kitchen.
