Jean-Marie Leclair – Sonata for Two Violins in A Major, Op. 3 No. 2 (3rd Movement: Allegro)
Jean-Marie Leclair (1697–1764), a key figure in the French violin school, was known for his ability to blend the elegance of French Baroque style with the virtuosity of Italian violin writing. His Sonata for Two Violins in A Major, Op. 3 No. 2 is a brilliant example of this fusion, showcasing both lyrical expressiveness and intricate counterpoint.
This recording features the third movement, Allegro, a lively and rhythmically driven conclusion to the sonata. Written in 2/4 meter, this movement contrasts with the earlier Allegro (first movement) and the expressive Sarabanda – Largo (second movement). The final Allegro is full of energy, requiring crisp articulation, precision in the interplay between the two violin parts, and a strong sense of forward motion.
Would you like me to record the other two movements as well? Let me know in the comments! 🎻
