1st Song - Inspired by Genesis 25 - The Death of Abraham

A hundred and seventy-five years of grace
The pilgrim has finally finished the race
Old and full of years, satisfied and grey
Abraham breathes his last today.
He gave up his spirit, the work is all done
Leaving the gifts to the promised son
The Concubine’s children are sent to the east
But the Father sits down at the heavenly feast.

One generation lies down in the dust

Now Isaac and Ishmael stand side by side
To bury the father where Sarah had died
In the cave of Machpelah, the purchase of old
The body is broken, the story is told.
Though the patriarch sleeps in the silence of stone
The God of the Living is still on the throne
The man is removed, but the plan is the same
So we bless the enduring, unchangeable Name.
