Still Life…
A still life is a painting or drawing of an arrangement of objects. Sometimes artists take photos of the objects before painting, and sometimes they are painted from real life with the objects set up in front of the artist. I’m working from a reference image that I took earlier this year.
Materials:
Liquitex Basics Paint (Michaels Brand)
Yellow
Purple
Burnt umber
Red
White
For the ground (magenta, purple, white)
Wooden cradle board or ‘wooden painting board’ from the dollar store.
Parchment paper to use as a pallet
Paper towel
Water
Brushes (various sizes)

o Is when opposites are arranged together
o Makes colour, value and other elements work together more effectively
o Draws the viewer’s eye
o Adds interest
If you want to learn more about this style of painting, I was heavily influenced in painting this study by the work of Sari Shryack @not_sorry_art and Teddi Parker @teddiparkerart. They are both masters at this loose and impressionistic style and communicating a lot of visual information with a minimum of brush strokes. Check their art out on Instagram.
