A chance sighting of a beautiful Kingfisher down by the waterside at a pond on Mitcham Common in South-East London.
They are fond of slow-moving or still water and are often seen as a flash of blue darting about low over the water. They like to hunt fish from riverside perches as seen in the video. Kingfisher are listed as a Schedule 1 species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act which strictly prohibits intentional or reckless disturbance at their nesting sites.
This one was filmed in early October 2025.
