Convert Simple to Compound Sentence | Transformation of Sentences | Steps | Examples | Exercise

In this video, we will learn how to convert a Simple sentence to a compound sentence without changing the meaning.

Simple Sentence:
A simple sentence has only one independent clause.
So, it will have only one subject and one predicate.
Simple Sentences contain one idea or more than one idea.

The second idea could be formed with the help of:
1. Infinitive
2. Participle
3. Preposition

Compound Sentence:
A compound sentence is made of more than one independent clause.

These independent clauses are joined in four ways:
1. Co-ordinating Conjunction
2. Co-relative conjunction
3. Conjunctive Adverbs
4. Punctuations : ;,-,','

Three-step formula to convert a Simple Sentence into a Compound Sentence with the help of
Coordinating Conjunction:

1. Identify the second idea given in the simple sentence.
2. Convert the second idea into an Independent Clause.
2. Use Appropriate Co-ordinating Conjunction from the seven coordinating conjunctions.


Answers to Exercise:
1. In addition to playing football, Ram plays cricket.
Ram plays cricket, and he also plays football.
Ram not only plays cricket but also plays football.


2. He was awarded for his nobility.
He was noble so he was awarded.


3. Possessing all the power of wealth, he never showed off.
He possessed all the power of wealth yet he never made name.
He possessed all the power of wealth but he never made name.
