starting a weekly read aloud routine in first grade! vocab, shared writing, accountable talk

This routine definitely isn’t the EXACT same every week, but it's the general routine I follow especially this time of year. Check out my weekly vlogs! ♡ open for links and more…

Most of the time, we read the book on Monday and go over new vocabulary, book genre, and I focus on a reading skill. On Tuesday, we usually do another reading skill, and we focus on story elements, they usually have some sort of task to complete, Wednesday is usually shared writing and focusing on key details, but in some cases it will be a shared writing based on another reading skill (like main idea.) On Thursday, they typically do a written response to the main standard I was focusing on that week. Friday is a comprehension/vocabulary quiz with a craft related to the book.
