Finally, I got this video done! Sivori plays this piece incredibly, taking after his teacher Paganini(Sivori was his only student!). Pay close attention to 1:56 in particular, Sivori plays this how Paganini would have, imitating the witch's singing.
Sivori appears to play the variations of this piece in a completely random order, inserting the main theme wherever he can and even changing the existing ones. He also adds his own variations throughout the piece, and I looked through every edition I could find and his additions were no where to be found. I assume Sivori is using his own edition, which is now lost, like so many of his other scores. I do not doubt that Sivori takes after his master's idea of only allowing himself to play his own works.
There is a story about how Paganini would give the orchestra the score only on the day of the concert, and after it had finished, would take the scores back. Sivori did the same thing with his 'Moto Perpetuo', he completely memorized the violin part and only wrote out the accompaniment. On the day of his last concert, he signaled to the pianist to begin, but as the pianist played on, Sivori never began. He then said, "I am old, gentlemen, my memory serves me little use!", he had forgotten his most prized showpiece.
Also, I would like you all to know that these recordings were recorded very shortly before Sivori's death(probably even less than a week!), so there are some technical faults caused by old age here and there, but the general quality is still preserved. You will find the same incredible phrasing and heart stopping playing you would have even if Sivori were 50 years younger. These recordings are like an unfinished Michelangelo sculpture, from the incredible carvings, you can see how he would have finished it.
