I Tried Hiking 160KM Across MADEIRA (With No Experience)

I spent 7 days hiking 160 km across Madeira, Portugal with ‪@PaddyDoyle.‬ walking coast-to-coast across Europes best island destination from Porto Moniz to Ponta de São Lourenço. The route includes classic levada walks, the cloud-forest of Fanal, the high plateau of Paul da Serra, and the island’s highest summit, Pico Ruivo, a well as hiking along Madeira's epic coastline to the very end of the island. These are some of the best Madeira hiking adventures you can experience on the island.

Madeira is a Portuguese island located in the Atlantic Ocean, which is geographically closer to Africa than mainland Portugal. It has a warm temperature all year round and not without reason is it called an island of eternal spring.

I lived in Madeira for the last couple of years but for one reason or another, I have never been hiking in Madeira (properly anyway). I wanted to experience this beautiful island in a new way and get to know it better, so I decided to cross it on foot. Our plan was to walk 160km across the island, from West to East.

It is my first time hiking or undertaking any sort of challenge like this.
