Swiss Dome Car on EuroCity Porta Moravica in Kraków - SBB Panoramawagen in Polen

Since June 2023 the popular SBB type Apm panoramic coaches have been deployed between Graz and Przemyśl.

Running on the long-distance EuroCity (EC) 106/107 "Porta Moravica" via Wien Hbf, Ostrava and Tarnów, the splendid Swiss dome cars pass over Austria's famed Semmering line, then all of eastern Moravia and southern Poland on the historic Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn, the long distance railway route built to connect Vienna and Krakow from the late 1830s to the mid 1850s. Now the EuroCity from southeastern Austria runs right up to the Ukrainian border at the eastern Polish station of Przemyśl Główny. Aside from the First Class Dome Car, more SBB and ÖBB coaches form part of the typically five-coach consist. The type Apm is extremely popular with railway travellers, in Poland, Czech Republic and Austria, with passengers often specifically booking the EC 106/107 to make their journey and ride in the car. As such, these stylish wagons are ideal Swiss railway ambassadors in Central Europe and welcome riders in Poland or Czecho to consider a railway visit to Switzerland for more of the same on Swiss routes, such as the Gotthard Panorama Express.

For comparative purposes, the end of the film also shows two other Intercity trains of PKP, hauled by either Class EP07 or EP09 locomotives. These Polish domestic IC trains are longer than the five coach EC train, which gets boosted with additional carriages once it reaches the Czech border station Bohumín.

Bilder der SBB Wagen auf dem sehenswerten städtischen Abschnitt in Krakau, inklusive der neuen Weichselbrücke und dem historischen Grzegórzki Viadukt aus dem Jahre 1863, welches erst kürzlich prächtig renoviert wurde. Auf dem polnischen Abschnitt besteht der Zug meist aus fünf Wagen (drei der SBB und zwei der ÖBB und wird gezogen von einer PKP E-Lok der Reihe EP09. Zum Vergleich kommen am Ende des Kurzfilmes auch noch ein paar inländische polnische IC Züge ins Bild, welche entweder von EP07 oder EP09 Lokomotiven gezogen werden und auf diesem Abschnitt aus längeren Garnituren mit mehr Wagen bestehen.
